I have been very, very bad about sharing travel posts lately. In fact, I’m pretty sure I’m still delayed on my Europe trip from last year–yikes! Truth be told, it’s hard to sort through so many options and when I’m out having a good time, I completely forget about taking photos. I feel like that’s something sinful to say when you have a blog that depends on photos and stories, but hey, sometimes you get wrapped up living your life!
This year, we were much more calm on the travel front. After heading to Russia, Canada and three different countries in Eastern Europe last year, it was time to stay put for a bit. But I did feel like a last adventure as a twosome was necessary. So we took off to La Jolla for the weekend for a nice little Babymoon.
La Jolla is a pretty short five hour drive from us and since it’s just calm and pretty, it was a great place for a Babymoon. I was 30 weeks pregnant when we went so it wasn’t exactly a time to be hiking, kayaking or gallivanting around.
A stroll to La Jolla Cove is an absolute must. It’s just gorgeous. There are plenty of parks for picnics, trails for walks, hikes and absolutely stunning views. There’s a great hiking trail too (which we skipped on this trip) that comes highly recommended.

We stayed at the Hotel La Jolla, a Kimpton hotel, which had a wonderful location walking distance from the beach. It was a short 5 minute drive from the Cove and pet-friendly for Lola. They had some nice perks like evening smores, happy hour every day with free wine and appetizers and morning coffee and tea. My biggest gripe, however, was the air conditioning. I’m an Arizona girl and I NEED my ice cold artificial air. Especially pregnant. In the summer. No matter how much we cranked down the a/c, it wasn’t cold. We complained, switched rooms and it felt the same. I know, it’s San Diego and you can just open the windows and feel the breeze. But the breeze also comes with humidity and I do not like to wake up with curly hair.
But really, you want to know about the food, right? I mean, isn’t it always about the food???
The lobster roll at Cody’s La Jolla is deadly. I was wildly jealous about the giant chunks of lobster hubby had and the views are fantastic too. Definitely stop by for brunch, though I’d recommend making it a weekday date if you can. Otherwise, be prepared for a long wait!
We also popped into OB Noodle House after seeing it on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. This was the BEST Asian food ever. I only got a decent pic of the fried rice but the noodle dish I ordered is something I still fantasize about. You’ll have to wait a bit for a table no matter what time you go and the place is pretty packed. We sat at the bar and the food came out quick and so fresh. It’s light and tasty and does not taste like that MSG garbage you get at a lot of Asian food restaurants. I wish we had one of these at home!
Other must-trys:

Book a sunset couple’s table at CUSP at the top of Hotel La Jolla. It’s gorgeous, romantic and the food is great.

At the cove you’ll find Herringbone, a Brian Malarkey restaurant with inventive cocktails and great eats. If they have it, I highly recommend the crab parpadelle, it was one of the best pasta dishes I’ve ever had and had So. Much. Crab.
