What to Wear to an Arizona Wedding: Your Ultimate Style Guide

I’ve been asked to write a post on what to wear to an Arizona wedding for quite some time now. And, it makes sense why there may be some confusion.

A fall wedding in Arizona may mean it’s still 95 degrees out. So you may wonder things like, “Is it still ok to wear open-toe shoes?” and “Are summer dresses ok in September?

Our less-than-ordinary weather makes figuring out the fashion season trickier than usual! Here are all your answers (I hope) and some ideas on what to wear to an Arizona wedding.

What to Wear to an Arizona Wedding

Are Open-Toe Shoes OK?

Yes! It’s not that cold out. A nice sandal, cute peep-toe or a closed toe pump is a good bet. Sandals are absolutely appropriate to wear to a wedding in Arizona–even in the fall!

Can I wear wedges to a fall wedding?

To be honest, there are very few summer weddings I would wear wedges to. Fall in AZ may be a bit warm during the daytime, but it does cool down at night and we’re just as excited as the rest of the country to embrace fall fashion. Store those wedges until springtime rolls around again.

Does anyone wear black?

We love fall fashion so by all means, bring it! It’s even ok to bring that spicy tangerine dress from summer, just leave the floral-print spring dress at home until next season.

Do I have to wear pantyhose?

Absolutely not. In fact, I’d say most occasions don’t require you to wear pantyhose these days.

It’s a bit warm to wear tights in October in Arizona but if you’re attending an evening wedding at the end of October or later, tights and pantyhose are totally OK.

Is a long dress OK?

First, answer these questions: Where is the wedding taking place? What is the bride’s style and what are her friends/family like? If the invitation says Black Tie, a long dress is absolutely appropriate. If your invitation says Formal, use the other questions above to help guide you. Generally speaking, formal means long or short is OK and an invitation without an indication means a cocktail dress.

Do men wear suits even if it’s 100 degrees?

Yup. The bride still wears a wedding dress so suck it up guys! It’s just for a few hours.

I hope this post has helped you figure out what to wear to an Arizona wedding!

  1. I’m looking to have a destination wedding in Arizona but I absolutely refuse to budge on my style of dress. I must have a long sleeved wedding gown! What month would be most appropriate to wed if I want a long sleeve dress with an outdoor ceremony/reception? I’m back and forth between April or September? Not sure which would be cooler. Please help!!

    1. Hi Brittini,
Congrats on the upcoming wedding! Will it be indoors or outdoors?
April and September are pretty hot around here still. My wedding was mid-October and it was over 100 degrees that entire week; we got lucky and it rained the night before so the weather was perfect on our wedding day. Between the two options, I would go for April. Either way, it should be cool at night. Since there’s no humidity here, anything under 100 degrees in the shade feels great.
