Rubber Ducky, You’re the ONE

rubber duck birthday

You’ve never, ever met anyone as excited about a rubber ducky birthday party as me.

Then again, that’s because it’s my son’s rubber ducky birthday party. A very, very special first birthday party. For my little baby boy.

Even thinking about the party made me misty-eyed. I’m not sure if it’s just a postpartum permanent hormonal shift or what, but there’s nothing like having a baby to turn you into a total pile of mush (not kidding.)

I picked the rubber ducky birthday party theme during my Baby-Q last year, when a friend brought over these rubber ducky ice cube trays. I had no idea what to do with these trays except hang on to them for a year in hopes of using them!

I ended up making these totally fabulous homemade chocolate and jelly candies (photo above). Aren’t they just darling?!

To do it, I bought Wilton Candy Melts from Michael’s, which are actually pretty tasty and come in a variety of colors; all you have to do is melt it and pour it into the tray. And voila, shaped candy! (Amazon also has them, but beware some of the colors are 2-3x more expensive than Michael’s.)

We had a fabulous afternoon with a bubble bar for the grownups and bubble-themed treats for the babies. I put the alcohol in this giant inflatable rubber ducky.

We also made a photo booth! This was really easy with a shower curtain backdrop for the “bath” and then I went to the dollar store and picked up fun props like loofahs, sponges and shower caps.

Sebastian actually ended up sleeping through a good majority of his party (he wasn’t too pleased to have the house packed) but then woke up excited and ready for cake. It was a really special day for us and so hard to believe a year has gone by already!

Here’s everything I used to create the Rubber Ducky Birthday Party:

I hope this rubber ducky birthday party has inspired to re-create your own for a birthday party or baby shower! This was such a fun theme to work with.
