Baby Update: 8 Months Old

8 month baby update mild rose

Mila turned 8 months old this week–time is flying! Cliché sounding? Maybe. But it does seem to be going a heck of a lot faster this time around.

With my first, I felt like the first year was so long, perhaps because every single noise and action was noticeable. Not to say we aren’t constantly celebrating Mila’s milestones, they just seem to be happening so much faster!

Anyway, I just thought I’d share a little 8-month update on our baby girl. I haven’t been the best about sharing monthly photos but I promise, I am taking them!

Eating

We’ve graduated from breastmilk on to solid foods–hooray! Her first food other than oatmeal was avocado and boy does she just love it. I was going to do baby-led weaning but didn’t educate myself on it (and it kinda made me nervous). She is practicing her pincer skills with puffs and we do some finger foods like avocado, bananas, and eggs in the morning. It’s all about experimenting with new flavors and textures right now!

I’m excited for her to move beyond baby first food purées and start eating what we eat. We mashed up some of my dinner tonight actually and she didn’t love it, but it’s all an introduction! You have to keep trying even when the initial reaction is negative. She didn’t take to avocado right away and now it’s her favorite.

Sleeping

We transitioned her out of our bedroom and into her nursery and it’s been great! I was SO nervous about it so we upgraded from our DockaTot to the DockaTot Grand and she sleeps like a hero. Honestly, it made the transition completely seamless and she started sleeping much better without sharing a room with us. I’m sure between me, my husband, the pets and S tossing and turning had her waking up at night! We are all better rested now.

You can check out my full review on the DockaTot Deluxe here and get the DockaTot for yourself here.

Mila has always loved her DockATot and the very few times she’s been put down without it, she has noticed right away! It has made our bedtime routine much easier because she actually doesn’t prefer to be rocked and instead, likes to snuggle into her DockATot until she finds the position she’s comfortable in (she’s a side sleeper!).

We got this floral Dock and this gorgeous spare cover in honor of her middle name, Rose, and because Mama likes it! (If you aren’t sure if this is worth the investment, check out how we used it here.) Typically, she sleeps through the night or wakes up once. She naps three times a day (always in her DockaTot) and goes down around 7 until 7. Hey, I can live with that! S did not sleep nearly as well when he was 8 months old.

Drinking

I don’t give my children juice so she’s tried some water and we’ve introduced formula, too. I had a drop in my supply and she got EXTREMELY aggressive with me (not fun) so we started to supplement. I also started working out again and want to be able to focus on being good to my body without stressing out about my supply dipping if I exercise too much or don’t take in enough calories.

Doing

We’ve got a full-on crawler in the house now! And she’s starting to push herself up to standing, too. She literally decided to do it all in one day but it’s fun to see her roaming around now and being more mobile.

Personality-wise, Mila is not easily impressed. She is much harder to make laugh and smile than her brother was. But he makes her WILD! We have never, ever been able to get her to laugh as hard and as hysterically as S can and it’s the sweetest thing ever.

I know some of you have babies the same age, what are yours up to right now? Do you like/want to see more personal stuff like this? Let me know and any questions you have in the comments below!
