If you follow me on Instagram, you know this Trunk Club for Women review has been coming!

Trunk Club for Women is another stylist-to-your-door concept. It’s owned by Nordstrom and, up until now, they only styled men. I’ve been anticipating their foray into women’s clothing for awhile now, and have seen quite a few friends posting about their love for Trunk Club competitors like Stitch Fix. So it was time to finally check it out!

Here is your ultimate guide to all things Trunk Club for Women.

Trunk Club for Women Review

When you first sign up for Trunk Club for Women, you fill out a little questionnaire on your style preferences.

You can also add in your social media accounts so your stylist can get a sense of your style and what you look like.

It took a few days for my stylist to call me and we had a short talk about my likes and dislikes. I was very specific and let her know my present challenges: I’m confident in my fashion choices but when I go shopping, I gravitate toward the LBD I’m only going to wear on date night rather than great basics I can wear over and over again. (Clearly I’m just easily seduced by sparkles!).

I also sent her links to a few bloggers whose style I really love and follow on Instagram. I highly recommend doing this, or linking them to your Pinterest board!

A word about pricing:

Trunk Club prices can be expensive, but it doesn’t have to be. Just be upfront and clear about your budget!!

Trunk Club for Women Packaging

trunk club women review

My trunk arrived a few days after our first conversation. You get 15 items in your trunk, which is quite a bit! This includes shoes and accessories, too and items that you can mix and match.

There are packaging labels and tape for when you’re ready to send your trunk back; you have 5 days to do so. Just keep what you like and send back what you don’t!

Trunk Club was initially free of charge; there is now a $25 styling fee which is waived with any purchase and goes toward what you’re buying. It’s also waived once you spend a certain total dollar amount, as I’ve never had a styling fee with my trunk.

Inside The Trunk Club App

To avoid getting a trunk you totally hate or that’s completely off the mark, you can peek at your trunk before your stylist ships it to you!

The app also groups your items together in different “outfits” so you can see how everything mix and matches. It’s a great way to see how all the items can be used in different ways with each other.

As your make more and more purchases from Trunk Club, you’ll be able to see your Wardrobe inside the app; your stylist can make recommendations of how to pair older items you’ve purchased and own with new ones she sends out!

You can also leave notes and comments for your stylist on each piece of clothing she sends you; I highly recommend doing this as the more detailed you are the better the stylist can get to know your likes and dislikes!

They have pre-made reasons you returned something, but I almost always add in additional info like:

  • I don’t like cowl neck styles
  • I never wear this color
  • I liked the fabric but the fit was awkward
  • Send me more like this in the future, I just don’t need right now
  • Send me similar, but cheaper price point

The Clothes

So all you want to really see are the clothes, right? Here is everything that was in my first trunk from Trunk Club

bb dakota red dress

This BB Dakota dress was the first thing I saw and I hated it…until I tried it on! It was on my “keep” list right away. It’s a pattern I wouldn’t have picked up myself and I love the wearability of shirtdresses as they’re so easy to dress up or down, comfortable and great for working from home or running errands.

I also completely fell in love with this Gorjana necklace as I’m truly a sucker for beautiful, dainty jewelry.

I mentioned I would try something new, like jogger pants, but ultimately ended up deciding they are SO not me. I just felt like I was wearing sweat pants (no wonder bloggers always pair them with heels?!). So back they went.

These Vince slip-on sneakers, however, made the list and I’m wearing them like crazy! They’re so comfortable and absolutely worth the investment.

I never am one to spend a lot on a flat even though the good support is needed and really, you wear them far more often than an evening shoe!

Also, this soft-like-butter leather jacket was amazing. EXACTLY my style. I just happen to have two similar ones, so back it went.

The one thing I got in my trunk that I truly hated was this gold lamé top. It was just awful. These black Paige jeans, however, are my new favorite thing in life. They are unbelievably soft, comfortable and so flattering. I love, love, looooooooove them.

Shop the Look

This cardigan was beautiful; I love the cut and its softness but it was one of the most expensive items in the box and at $248, just didn’t make the cut. These boyfriend jeans were not flattering at all, so back they went. This Splendid white tee, however, is quite nice and so soft to the touch.

The only other thing I got in the trunk I really hated was this denim skirt. I just personally loathe denim skirts. The black top was ok, just nothing special.

equipment mina dress

equipment leopard dress

This Equipment dress was by far one of my favorite things in the trunk! The fit was incredible, the silk fabric is lovely and although I’ve only worn it once, I got compliments all night. It was a bit of a splurge so I almost didn’t keep it, but I had to have it. And while these Dolce Vita boots were ok (last photo), they just weren’t my style.

The Feedback: Trunk Club Pricing, Fit & Re-orders

As far as Trunk Club’s cost, I did google some of the items to see if they were cheaper online (can’t help myself!) and they were pretty much on-par with retailer pricing.

One of the dresses was actually $50 cheaper in the trunk! That was enough to convince me to not bother doing the research next time.

Everything she sent me fit, which surprised me because the dresses and tops were all XS and I typically wear a size small. I didn’t question it and tried everything on anyway knowing some brands just vary in their sizing. There was one FCUK black dress that was too small in the bust, which is a problem I’ve had with that brand in the past.

Trunk Club for Women Final Thoughts

All in all, This wasn’t bad for my first trunk; I didn’t want to bust my budget on my first trunk. But that’s something you can let your stylist know as well (mine ranged from $50-$250+).

I told my stylist I would splurge on a great item like a pair of shoes, awesome jacket or glorious dress from time to time but I wouldn’t buy a $100 T-shirt.

What I like best is the quality brands: Vince, Joie, Paige, Splendid, Dolce Vita, Kendra Scott…pretty much all of your Nordstrom favorites! You know you are getting quality stuff.

You can get a trunk as often as you like and I suspect the more items you get, the better your stylist gets at knowing you and your tastes.

While I won’t be doing this monthly, I think it would be great for a seasonal refresh and for being introduced to items slightly outside my comfort zone.
