My Skincare DNA Results | HomeDNA Skin Care Test Review

Home DNA skincare test review
Excuse me while I geek out here, but how cool is it that you can analyze your skincare based on your DNA?! That’s exactly what the HomeDNA Skin Care Test aims to do. From finding out how predisposed you are to wrinkles to what ingredients you should look for in beauty products, I felt like this info was gold. So I tried it out for myself! (This product was gifted to me, but all opinions are my own). Here is my HomeDNA Skin Care Test review and results.

The Home DNA Skin Care™ test is a simple at-home cheek swab. You rub what’s essentially a long Q-tip on the inside of your cheek, slip it back into the envelope and send it off for analysis. It’s then sent to the DDC lab for DNA analysis, specifically looking for genetic markers in relation to your skin.

In a few weeks, you’ll get an email with the results! The report looks at genes within these 7 categories:

  • Fine Lines and Wrinkles
  • Collagen Quality
  • Skin Sensitivity
  • Pigmentation
  • Sun Protection
  • Skin Elasticity
  • Skin Antioxidants

You can use these results to really personalize your skincare. There are even suggestions on improving your skin. You’ll find personalized suggestions for: topical ingredients, supplement ingredients, and professional treatments as well as detailed explanations of the gene examined and what it means.

For example, my result was “Optimal” for Gene3P25.2

Which is what?!?

Anti-Wrinkle Promotion

“This gene reduces one of the processors that cause collagen fibers to harden, leading to wrinkles. Your results show that it functions at an optimal level and that your risk is standard.”

Personally, I love the fun facts and how detailed this is!

I fared slightly below average in the “Skin Sensitivity” category. So my report recommends looking for topical products with ingredients like grape seed extract and hyaluronic acid. (There are 4 more recommended to me in addition to these).

For Supplement Ingredients, one of the recommendations is Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) and fish oil to help reduce inflammatory signaling proteins.

And for Professional Treatments, recommendations include LED Light Therapy and Lactic Acid.

My Skincare DNA Results & What I Thought

HomeDNA Skin Care Test ReviewHomeDNA Skin Care Test Review I’m a total beauty geek, so I was sooooooooo excited about this! After all, who wouldn’t want a Magic 8-ball to tell them all about the future of their skin?!

Opening the HomeDNA Skin Care Test Report made me feel like I was checking a grade in class. I was stoked to see I aced Fine Lines and Wrinkles (yay!) with an above average marker. But when I saw some red marks (below average) in other areas, I felt a little deflated.

Here is how I fared:

  • Skin Sensitivity-Nonideal (3) Optimal (2)
  • Pigmentation-Optimal
  • Sun Protection-Optimal
  • Skin Elasticity-Optimal (2) Standard (1)
  • Skin Antioxidants-Optimal (4) Standard (1)

HomeDNA Skin Care Test Conclusion

The process was simple and the results were fascinating. I learned a lot about my skin and some of the results really surprised me.

I was extremely shocked to see one of my genes predisposes me to burning in the sun when I’ve never burned a day in my life. In fact, I tan within minutes! I was also surprised to see I fared well below average when it comes to skin sensitivity, as I’ve never considered myself to have sensitive skin.

But just like any DNA test, this is simply analyzing your genetic markers. Just because you carry a certain gene doesn’t mean that gene is expressed. This doesn’t indicate my results were “wrong”, just that I have a certain gene. It’s not necessarily expressed.

Since taking the HomeDNA Skin Care Test, I’ve taken a lot closer look at my skin and have noticed it does react to certain products. So I may actually have more sensitive skin than I thought and never really noticed it before!

Ultimately, I think this is a really fun way to learn more about your skin and get some great, personalized tips on what products you should be using. And, you can find it at CVS for just $25!   (There is also a lab fee)

Have you done any DNA tests before?

Spread the love!
