Beauty Busts

worst new makeup beauty products

There’s always something new beauty bloggers and magazine editors are obsessed with and swear is the new “It” beauty product we should all go out and buy. I swear by my own personal favorites, too. But these three beauty busts that keep coming up on my must-have list make me wonder if anyone actually tried them at all! They’ve come by my desk too and after giving them a go, well, they seem like a good idea more so than they actually are.

Beauty Bust 1: Clinique CC Cream

I have no idea why the Clinique CC Cream gets such rave reviews, the texture is just plain horrible and it is anything but “hydrating”. It’s difficult to spread across the skin, which means you’ll end up using more product than necessary and it is not smooth to the touch. If you’re looking for a good CC cream, definitely pass on this one.

almay cc cream vs clinique cc cream

Try: Almay CC Cream. It offers light coverage similar to a tinted moisturizer and glides on smooth. Bonus: It’s way cheaper, too!

Beauty Bust 2: Smashbox Full Exposure Palette

I wanted to love Smashbox Full Exposure palette SO BAD. I didn’t even need it but found my arm at the store decorated in every single color of this. So home with me it came where I just couldn’t WAIT to try it on. And it was the biggest disappointment I’ve felt since Gossip Girl got canceled. While the colors are gorgeous to look at, they’re exactly that, gorgeous…in the palette. This thing does not transfer the pigment from the product to your face, leaving you with sheer shades that lack any kind of resemblance to what’s actually in the package. Those pretty shimmer shades don’t transfer either and instead, you end up with slight specks of tiny glitter. I tried different brushes as well as using my fingers and ultimately ended up returning this.

urban decay naked 2 palette vs. smashboxx full exposure palette

Try: Urban Decay Naked palette instead. Which is what I was hoping this palette would be like. I’m obsessed with my Urban Decay Naked 2 palette and it’s a great go-to for both day and night.

Beauty Bust 3: DiorShow Mascara

I am sure I am going to get rebuttals from this but hear me out: DiorShow is FANTASTIC Mascara. And if it wasn’t $25 a pop it would be my favorite. But here’s my biggest issue with it: this thing dries out so fast it’s unbelievable. I swear the formula is designed to instantly lose its juiciness so you have to constantly purchase a new one. My lashes do love it, but the financial commitment to consistently have a fresh, juicy tube is just too much.

maybelleine colossal mascara review vs. dior show mascara

Try: Maybelleine Colossal mascara instead. It stays fresh and juicy for weeks and is a mere $6. I love the thick brush which makes for super thick and long lashes. It’s been my go-to mascara for years and people constantly ask if I’m wearing falsies!

  1. I also have a review that seems a good idea but no actually. I just bought Maybelline The Falsies, it’s good but for my straight and small lashes it doesn’t fit. I need a recommend for a mascara :/

    1. I tried that mascara too, didn’t like it either! I was super disappointed in it actually. I’m a huge fan of Maybelline’s The Collosal though, would highly recommend that one.

  2. Hmm.. I get it on the Dior Show. I did really like Benefit’s They’re Real. But it was too hard to take off. Sometimes I go back to Voluminous, but then I always end up going back to Dior. UG MASCARA WHY CANT YOU BE PERFECT!
